CEO R.I.T. SQUAD™
R.I.T. SQUAD™ Readers in Training™ was created to give every child the chance to experience the joy and confidence that comes from reading. As an educator for over 20 years, I have seen how reading struggles can quickly affect not only academics, but also a child’s self-esteem and future opportunities. My motivation comes from wanting to change that storyensuring students from all backgrounds have access to tools, encouragement, and role models who make reading exciting, empowering, and achievable.
The story of R.I.T. SQUAD™ Readers in Training™ is personal. I was adopted by my mother, who poured love, structure, and a deep appreciation for reading into my life. She took me and my siblings to the library, read with us, and modeled the importance of books as a pathway to growth and imagination. Her influence inspired me to create a program that honors her legacy by helping children build both literacy skills and a love for learning.
R.I.T. SQUAD™ is designed as a superhero-themed reading support system where young learners (Kindergarten–2nd grade) are paired with student “Reader Leaders” who mentor and encourage them. The program uses fun flashcards, engaging characters, and structured activities to turn reading into a source of confidence rather than frustration.
As a growing literacy program, R.I.T. SQUAD™ Readers in Training™ faces several key challenges:
At R.I.T. SQUAD™ Readers in Training™, we make reading fun, engaging, and empowering. Our superhero-themed programs combine expert-led strategies, peer mentorship, and family support to help every child build confidence and literacy skills. By connecting students, teachers, and communities, we create a learning environment where every child has the tools, encouragement, and opportunities to succeed.
Our programs are primarily designed for Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students, with older students (2nd–5th) serving as Reader Leaders to mentor younger peers.
Older students are paired with younger learners to provide encouragement, guidance, and support. This builds leadership skills in the mentors while boosting reading confidence in the mentees.
Each kit includes superhero-themed flashcards, decodable readers, reading logs, classroom posters, badges, and incentives to make learning engaging and rewarding.
Yes! We offer subscription kits and parent support materials so children can practice reading at home while parents are guided on how to support their child’s progress.
Schools can choose from tiered packages (Starter, Core, Elite) that include all the tools, teacher guides, and professional development workshops needed to successfully run the program.
Absolutely. Our Joyce Terrell Literacy Scholarship Fund provides free kits to families in need, ensuring that every child has access to literacy support and mentorship.
